“Prevention is better than cure” remains one of the fundamental principles of public health. Cervical cancer is among the most preventable forms of cancer, with HPV vaccination playing a pivotal role in its prevention. Recognising the importance of this preventive measure, PSG Group of Hospitals continues to conduct HPV vaccination drives once every two months. The initiative is led by Dr. Chitra and Dr. Anu Priya from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and coordinated by the Student Council. The drives aim to make HPV vaccination accessible to students at a subsidised cost.
Marking the first anniversary of the initiative, a commemorative event was held on 28 February, in the presence of medical director Dr. Karthikeyan, Dr. J S Bhuvaneswaran, principals of the constituent colleges, Dr. S Latha Maheshwari, HOD and professor, department of OBGYN, and Dr. Chitra, professor, department of OBGYN. The programme featured the screening of a short film on HPV vaccination, followed by an awareness talk highlighting the importance of vaccination in preventing HPV-related diseases and reducing the burden of cervical cancer. The event was also attended by the president and general secretary of students council 2026 along with Mr. Mohit, former general secretary.
The programme also witnessed overwhelming participation, with around 100 students getting vaccinated against HPV, demostrating the growing awareness fostered by the institution through its continued efforts in preventive healthcare.
The success of the programme serves a reminder that prevention of any disease begins with authentic information and health education. Students who are eligible to take the vaccine are encouraged to participate in the vaccination drives and contribute to not only their personal well being but also to the collective goal of a healthier, HPV free future
