Contagion, an online intercollegiate undergraduate infectious diseases quiz, was organised by
the PSGIMSR Quiz Club in collaboration with the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists –
Tamil Nadu Chapter (IAMM-TN) and the Academy of Clinical Microbiologists (ACM). The event
was conducted on 27 and 28 January and comprised two rounds: a preliminary round and a final
round.
The preliminary round, hosted on Kahoot!, witnessed overwhelming participation, with more than
90 teams from medical colleges across the country competing. Six teams qualified for the final
round, which was conducted via Zoom.
The quiz was led by Dr. Someshwaran, Professor, Department of Microbiology, who served as the
Quiz Master.
After the intense grand finale that tested the participants’ knowledge, speed, and analytical
skills, emerging at the top was M. V. Harshavardhan of Madras Medical College, followed by
Haresh B. and Aashik Chakravarthi of PSGIMSR in second place, and Manikandan A. and Harsha
S. B. of ESIC Medical College in third Place. Cash prizes of ₹5,000, ₹3,000, and ₹2,000,
respectively, were awarded through the sponsorship of the Academy of Clinical Microbiologists
(ACM).
The event was successfully conducted by the Quiz Club Secretary and representatives: Lakshmi
S. (Secretary, 2022), Puja Bharathi (Representative, 2023), Rajashreeyal (Representative, 2024),
and Vaishnavi (Representative, 2025).
The event served not as only a quiz but also as a platform for learning beyond the books. Its
resounding success wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the principal, faculty
members, IAMM- TN and ACM.
